Polarised Optical Microscopy
Polarised optical microscopy is one of the most important techniques used in liquid crystal work. In the group we have a large range of microscopes available for microscopy and other microscopic techniques. The microscopes we have include an Olympus BH2, a Leitz Laborlux 12 Pol, two Zeiss Universal and a Zeiss Axioskop 40 Pol set up for transmission and epiluminescence microscopy. To heat the samples, all the microscopes are fitted with Mettler heating stages (FP90, FP80 or an FP5 controller in combination with an FP82HT hotstage oven).
