The Art-into-Science, Science-into-Art Exhibition, sponsored by eth EPSRC took place at York Minster during the week of the BA Festival in September. The art works consisted of four different groups based around the theme of liquid crystal textures. The first set were photomicrographs taken of liquid crystal textures, a second set comprised negatives of liquid crystals textures that were coloured using Adobe Photoshop, the third set were collages of liquid crystal textures depicting flowers, birds, cats etc, the last set were hand painted canvases depicting liquid crystal textures. This last group, which was produced by Eve Goodby replicated the research of scientists in the 1930s to 1950s who typically hand-painted pictures of the textures of liquid crystals.
